Self care is a constant in my job. I need it to be effective, I talk to supervisees about it, I talk to clients about it, it’s always a priority. A common misconception I come across is that self care needs to be some sort of grand gesture, an activity, a walk, a massage, a long bath. That can feel like just another thing to do and thinking of how to fit that in simply adds to the mental load. Carving out 5 minutes to switch off and press the reset button can be enough. The best way to do this differs for everyone and it’s important to find yours. I’m fortunate to have enough flexibility in my diary that I can add short gaps between appointments here and there to recharge.
This is me, doing exactly that, looking at the sun out of the window and enjoying a quiet cup of tea and taking a moment to search for tension in my body, letting that out with a nice deep breath.
A mini self care top up. Magic.
